Opening Ceremony of the 3rd VNU-UL Autumn Law Forum and Symposium "New developments in Civil Law and Civil Procedure Law in the world and Vietnam"

On the morning of October 27, 2023, the VNU University of Law held the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd VNU-UL Autumn Law Forum and the symposium "New developments in Civil Law and Civil Procedure Law in the world and Vietnam" at Hall 703-E1.

 

The ceremony included the participation of numerous renowned scholars: Associate Professor, PhD. Nguyen Thi Que Anh (Rector of VNU-UL); Associate Professor, PhD. Trinh Tien Viet (Vice Rector of VNU-UL); Dr. Nguyen Bich Thao; Dr. Do Giang Nam, Ph.D. Nguyen Thi Phuong Cham;  Prof.Dr. Phan Trung Ly (Former Chairman of the National Assembly Law Committee); Prof.Dr. Le Minh Tam (former Rector of Hanoi Law University); Associate Professor, PhD. Tran Van Do (Former Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court); Dr. Nguyen Quoc Van (Director of the Institute of Strategy and Scientific Inspection, Government Inspectorate); Associate Professor, PhD. Hoang Van Nghia (HCMC National Academy of Politics); …

 

 

Speaking at the opening of the Forum, Vice Rector Trinh Tien Viet said "VNU-UL Autumn Law Forum is an annual scientific event established by the VNU University of Law in 2021. It has become a prestigious academic forum to discuss legal issues and new developments in the world and Vietnam. Following the success of the previous VALFs, this year the Forum Organizing Committee aims to develop a general proceeding and send it to the Party, State agencies, training, and research centers, and relevant organizations to serve the mission of policy consultation, knowledge dissemination, and promotion of improving the quality of legal training and research activities, thereby affirming the university's social responsibility and the contribution of the legal profession in general to the development of the country in the new period, especially in the period of deep integration and building the socialist rule-of-law state of Vietnam". At the end of the speech, the Vice Rector thanked the leading scholars for attending the Conference and wished the Conference great success.

 

 

Following the Opening session, the 3rd VNU-UL Autumn Law Forum began with Symposium 1 "New developments in Civil Law and Civil Procedure Law in the world and Vietnam" moderated by Associate Professor, PhD. Ngo Huy Cuong and Dr. Nguyen Bich Thao chaired.

In the first presentation, Dr. Nguyen Bich Thao, representing the author group, presented thematic report 1 with the topic "New developments in Property Law". The report revolves around the development of 'Digital Assets', sustainable development goals, and issues raised by traditional property law. The paper initially identifies some issues of challenges and changes in contemporary property law, thereby provoking extensive discussions at the Conference.

Following the program, Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Cham presented the paper "New Developments in the Law of Obligations" with main content including: Legal responsibilities of Internet intermediary platforms; the sharing economy, and new challenges to compensation law; liability for damages in the context of emerging digital technologies; Smart contracts and challenges posed to traditional contract law.

In the third session, through the discussion on the topic "Modern development trends of intellectual property law", Associate Professor, PhD. Nguyen Thi Que Anh provides an overview of the context and new developments of the IP protection system, thereby identifying and making some comments on IP development trends in the current period.

 

 
 

In the last session, Dr. Ngo Thanh Huong presented the paper "New developments in civil procedure law" with the main content being new development trends of civil procedure law in the world due to the impact of the digital revolution and new challenges to sustainable development.

After the presentation, scholars and researchers participated in a general discussion. There were numerous scientific perspectives explored here on new developments in civil law and civil procedure law.

After 3 hours of work, the conference ended successfully with more than 100 participants attending in person and nearly 200 participants attending online via the Zoom platform.
